Fairway Wood Fitting

Fairway woods take contact off tight turf far more often than a driver, and a thin or fat strike sends noticeably more shock back through the shaft. We fit for turf interaction first, then dial in comfort.

Turf Interaction

Sole Design Changes How Much Shock You Feel

A wider, more rounded sole tends to glide through turf rather than dig, which reduces both fat strikes and the jarring feedback that comes with them. We test sole shapes against your typical attack angle and the turf conditions you play most often.

Center of gravity placement also plays a role: a lower-forward CG raises launch on strikes that catch slightly thin, which softens the miss without requiring a swing change.

What We Adjust for Comfort and Consistency

Sole Width & Camber

A rounded, cambered sole reduces digging on firm or thin turf, softening the feedback on strikes that catch slightly behind the ball.

Shaft Flex Profile

A shaft that loads and releases smoothly through impact absorbs more energy before it reaches your hands than a mismatched, overly stiff profile.

Grip Compound

The same softer polymer and corded options available for driver fittings apply here, particularly useful for players hitting fairway woods off tight lies often.

Loft Selection

Higher-lofted fairway woods launch more forgivingly off turf, reducing the frequency of thin strikes that cause the most noticeable shock.

Head Size

A slightly larger head profile raises MOI, which tempers the twisting effect of an off-center strike on tighter lies.

Length

Shortened fairway wood builds often improve strike consistency for players prioritizing control over maximum distance.

Dial In Your Fairway Wood Comfort

Sessions run 45–60 minutes, comparing turf interaction and shock transfer across sole designs and shaft profiles.
